Quick explanation before my comment about Vintage Austrian photos
A couple of weeks ago, after 8 years of use, my Instagram account was suddenly suspended by the annoying social media platform.
Other than a reason they sent me being something about “illegally downloading Instagram information” (I have NO idea what they are talking about as I barely used the account anymore, nor did I download anything from Instagram), I still don’t know why.
But, after 2 minutes of thought on the subject I decided, rather than filing the appeal to the suspension they asked me to file, my response was “Screw it and F*ck them”.
Especially as I have every photograph I have ever uploaded to the platform stored in the cloud, and would much prefer to make money from my own photos myself. Rather than supporting what is quickly becoming an authoritarian social media platform.
So, over the next few weeks, you will be seeing a plethora of photographs from in and around Vienna appear here on Oh My Vienna.
Some are older, while some are relatively new, but all of them will give you another window into the wonderfulness that is Vienna, and away from the authoritarianism of the folks at Instagram.
Now onto my comment about vintage Austrian photos…
Vintage Austrian photographs (see above)
I uploaded this photo of two vintage Austrians photographs I now own to my Instagram account on April 14th, 2019 with the following comment:
FLOHMARKT (Flea Market) — I went with my parents, who are currently visiting me in Vienna, to Naschmarkt’s flea market on Saturday.
It was the first time I have been there (It’s amazing!), which is utterly weird seeing as how I lived down the street from it during my first 3 1/2 months in Vienna.
While at Nashmarkt’s flea market, I bought these vintage photos, because I have always loved old photos where you can imagine who these people were, and how they lived their lives.
I particularly like vintage Austrian photos, as people here have such strong faces.
Plus, look at the uniform of the soldier in the photo on the left (taken in 1916 — did he and his family survive the war?), and the second one with the couple dressed in their Sunday best especially for the photo. All while looking stiff and very nervous.
Besides just think, in this age of constant, easy photography, what an important occasion having a photo taken must have been back then.

If you are interested in buying vintage Austrian photos at the Naschmarkt Saturday market, several stalls sell them and most offer them for a reasonable price.
I paid 2 euros for each of the photos I bought, and was so intrigued by them I have added several more to my now-expanding collection since.
