Mirjam Weichselbraun new presenter for The Masked Singer Austria season 2

Austrian TV presenter Mirjam Weichselbraun has been named as the new presenter for The Masked Singer Austria Season 2.

Weichselbraun will take over from Arabella Kiesbauer, who you may remember from Season 1, as well as one of Weichselbraun’s co-presenters during Austria’s turn hosting the Eurovision Song Contest in 2015.

Kiesbauer herself has moved on from The Masked Singer Austria to become the moderator for the new season of the talent show Starmania, which will begin airing in February.

Both women pop up quite often on shows here in Austria.

Although, in a country of only 8.9 million, and with what seems to be a limited number of presenters and with many TV shows produced by the country’s public broadcaster ORF repeatedly choosing the same presenters, they often do.

Both women are talented and extremely personable presenters, however, so audiences like them.

The Masked Singer Austria is part of the Korean Masked Singer franchise. A show where celebrities wear crazy costumes and face masks in an attempt to disguise themselves while they sing.

At the end of each episode, TV viewers cast their votes, and then the singer with the lowest votes is unmasked.

The first season of The Masked Singer Austria ended last year with former Eurovision contestant Nadine Beiler being declared the winner.

Beiler won while being dressed as a yeti.

While the costumes used in the performances are always extravagant and quite fun, and some of the comments from show’s panelists can be entertaining, the show’s format has a tendency to be dull.

Something critics have pointed out in both Austria and in other countries where the franchise currently runs.

If you are a fan though, look for Mirjam Weichselbraun presenting season 2 of The Masked Singer Austria sometime in the first half of 2021.

Meanwhile, if you care to see Mirjam Weichselbraun (and Arabella Kiesbauer, along with third presenter Alice Tumler plus 2014 contest winner Conchita Wurst) do an excellent job presenting the world’s biggest singing competition, Eurovision Song Contest has kindly uploaded the full show to their official YouTube channel.

You can watch that below.
