Vienna’s waste incineration plant is a work of art — Photo of the Day

Vienna’s waste incineration plant is one of the prettiest you will ever see.

Designed by eco-architect Friedensreich Hundertwasser (famous for designing Vienna’s Hundertwasserhaus) after there was a plant fire in 1989, it really is a work of art.

Its walls are covered in colorful mosaic pieces, and its tower looks Arabian. In the Spittelau area, it stands out wherever you are.

And if you are interested in environmentally friendly waste incineration and energy, you can even take a tour of the waste incineration plant to find out just how they do what they do.

The Vienna waste incineration plant is run by Wien Energie and is located right next to the Spittelau U-bahn train station, so if you want to see it in person it’s a quick trip up the U-6 line and then a one-minute walk.

Well worth seeing, as it really is quite spectacular.
