Vienna’s MuseumsQuartier is one of the places to hangout just about every day of the year. But particularly in the summer, when people from all over the city just come here to chill.
Because it has everything — Art. Museums. Courtyards and passages. Book shops. Funky seating. Cafes and restaurants. Beer. Live music. People. Culture. Fun. Stuff for kids. Stuff for adults. Architecture. Baroque. Modern. Leopold Museum. Museum Moderner Kunst Stiftung Ludwig Wien (Mumok). Kunsthalle Wien.
In fact, what cooler thing could there be to do on a gorgeous summer day in Vienna than lying around on an over-sized blue bed (well, they’re blue this year anyway) at the MuseumsQuartier, and just watching the world go by?
As for the winter, while the cafes close their outdoor seating areas as it is way too cold to eat outside, they erect in their places these amazing metal half-dome structures called ‘ice pavilions’ and, at night, they are then used as heated open-air bars.
The MQ’s ice pavilions are open every night at 5pm until December 23rd, and stay open until around 11pm. Don’t miss the light show on the Leopold Museum building either. It changes every night and it’s gorgeous.
