A typical Vienna breakfast — crusty bread, butter, chives and a boiled egg — Photo of the Day

A typical Vienna breakfast in the summer time is a couple of slices of thick, crusty homemade bread, spread generously with butter and topped with chopped chives.

The restaurants that serve this usually serve it as a ‘breakfast set’ complete with a boiled egg or two.

Add a cafe latte, and this is a filling yet inexpensive Vienna breakfast that will get you started right for the rest of your day.

This Viennese breakfast was at a little street cafe at the top end of the Kutschkermarkt in the Währing area of Vienna.

It was so delicious, and so nice to sit there, I managed to drink two more lattes before I left.

A typical Viennese breakfast like this costs around 4.5 to 5 euros, plus the cost of a coffee.

A great price for a good breakfast, and a seat from where you can watch the world go by.
